3/3/2022 - Reminder: Masking Continues on Campus

To: The Campus Community

From:  Jennifer Howes, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Wellness

Today, Los Angeles County and the City of Pasadena announced relaxed masking guidance, and as of Friday, March 4, will no longer require individuals to wear masks in indoor public settings.

To avoid misunderstandings, I'm writing to clarify that Caltech's mask policy has not yet changed. Masks will continue to be required inside all campus buildings and facilities for the time being. This requirement, as noted in my February 24 communication, will remain in effect through at least the end of the winter term, on March 16.

Even with the new relaxed guidance, health officials continue to urge caution and strongly recommend the continued use of masks indoors. The current trends are promising and positive, and we hope they will continue, but that remains to be seen.

Over the next few weeks, we will monitor conditions locally and on campus, including surveillance testing data and the number of positive cases among the Caltech community. Any future decisions to relax Caltech's masking requirements will be based on continued positive changes in these conditions.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all navigate the ongoing pandemic together to ensure the overall health and well-being of the Caltech community.
