3/1/2021 - Vaccine Appointments
To: Caltech Community Members
From: Steve Atlee, Vaccine Working Group Chair and Deputy General Counsel
Effective today, individuals at risk of occupational exposure through their work in the education sector are eligible to register for a COVID-19 vaccine appointment in Los Angeles County. The COVID-19 vaccine is a critical life-saving tool in our response to the pandemic. Caltech expects eligible members of the community seeking access to the vaccine to do so in accordance with all local and state public health guidelines and processes and in a responsible, fair, and accurate manner.
Eligible individuals can search for available appointments on the following state and county sites:
- California Vaccine Appointments: https://myturn.ca.gov/
- LA County Vaccine Appointments: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/vaccine/index.htm
This evening, the Pasadena Public Health Department also informed Caltech that it is expanding its eligibility criteria to include higher education employees (both residents of Pasadena who work at a college or university elsewhere, as well as individuals employed at a college or university in Pasadena). The following clinics are designated for higher education employees this week:
- PPHD and Huntington Hospital Walk-Up Clinics (Pfizer):
- Tuesday, March 2: https://www.calvax.org/reg/1360324934
- Wednesday, March 3: https://www.calvax.org/reg/4314296009
- Thursday, March 4: https://www.calvax.org/reg/0243914067
- PPHD Drive-Thru Clinic at Pasadena City College (Moderna)
- Thursday, March 4: https://www.calvax.org/reg/9012067369
In addition to getting vaccinated at any public site, members of the education and childcare sector are also invited to sign up for vaccination appointments at county-run "MegaPOD" sites on Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6. "MegaPOD" sites include the Pomona Fairplex, Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, The Forum in Inglewood, and California State University, Northridge. Appointments may also be made directly through local pharmacies, including several CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Vons, Pavilions, Albertsons, Costco, and Ralphs locations.
Individuals who are eligible to receive the vaccine can also call 833-540-0473 daily between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. for assistance with appointments.
To receive a vaccine at a public administration site, individuals must register for an appointment and be prepared to show proof of identification and employment at Caltech.
Please note that Caltech's Vaccine Working Group continues to plan for dedicated clinics for the campus community, both in a hospital setting and on campus. The Institute has been approved as a vaccine provider and is waiting, along with many other institutes of higher education, for an allocation of vaccines. Vaccine supply is scarce currently; that situation should improve as additional vaccines are approved, manufactured, and distributed.
